Maiko designs functional and desirable items from leather. Making shoes using traditional method but with her own contemporary twist. Using Italian calf and individually made insoles ensures great comfort of the pieces. She creates bags with a variety of leather and often adds a touch of hand polished veg tanned leather to them. Maiko likes to keep the work simple and practical, whilst playing with colours.
Inspired by tradition and crafted for life: the Mati Ventrillon brand aligns authentic Fair Isle knitwear traditions with Mati’s life journey to give the brand its unique identity. ‘What excites me the most about my work is living in the island; I want people to recognize the original patterns and value the lifestyle that is required to produce them.’
Matt and Amanda Caines
Amanda and Matt are mixed media collaborative artists working predominantly with recycled materials. They make bound textile based necklaces, brooches and bracelets featuring found wood that is hand carved, recycled silver and other materials including mud-larked ceramics.
